Sofía Arias

Ever since she could remember, Sofia has had a true, devoted interested in everything Health related. Due to personal experience, she finds Ayurveda more than a decade ago, only to find the magic and healing of self-care and yoga; practices that change her life.

Sofía is a lover of nature and is passionate in helping other find their balance.  Besides the certifications in Yoga, Ayurveda Counseling, Life & Health Coaching she also holds a degree in Law and Political Science from la USMA in Panama.

Health Coaching (Ayurveda)

Sofia’s Helath Coaching is mainly based in Ayurveda Science, as a base to find integral health and sustainability. Sofía is an Ayurveda Wellness Counselor, by the Seventi Institute, founded by James Bailey. She has more than a decade of experience practicing and sharing this Science. She credits her personal health, as well as her clients to Ayurveda; An ancient science that is so complete and whole, with health benefits that are effective even at this day and age.
This particular Health Coaching, looks to help clients find their own balance, so they can make more intuitive and healthy choices through their lifetime. It’s also meant to be enjoyed, so feeling good in our bodies is of essence.
We work to cultivate new lifestyle habits, a better diet, elevated and intuitive nutrition and more. Building of a ‘’practice’’ is reinforced.
And we are looking to work towards a happy balance and ‘’healthy again’’; and there is no better inspiration for this path than Ayurveda.

Mindful Mama Coaching

A Coaching for new mothers to find: balance, warmth and joy in this important transition. It includes practices like: Ayurveda and Yoga, as well as new habits and practices we can effectively bring into this new phase. We cover how to nourish and empower our bodies through movement, relaxation, meditation and nutrition. Self care, is also a big theme in this style of Coaching; a practice that can be born with the New Mama, too.

The idea is in giving mama this support, so she can navigate this moment with more energy, calm and positivity. And this will benefit everyone!

-Ramon y Cajal

Naturally a nomad, born in Costa Rica and Panamanian by acquisition. During high school is when I began to feel fascinated by the brain and how it affects a human being’s behavior. I graduated from a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Florida State University in 2008. Two years later, I began my Master’s in Clinical Neuropsychology of Children and Adults from the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona and graduated in 2013. At the same time, I was completing a Master’s in Clinical Psychology of Children and Adolescents from ISEP.

My curiosity for understanding human complexities, specifically the brain, have determined my professional path. It first lead me to the adolescent world when I began working at the Metropolitan School of Panama in 2013, eventually becoming the Counselor for 6th-12th graders. I have always been able to connect with teenagers and understand the problems they undergo through these formative years.

I firmly believe that an affected brain will be expressed in different ways for each individual; because of this it is best to undergo a thorough evaluation and treatment needs to be personalized. An essential part of the process towards improvement is during the evaluation since this is the time to study all functions of the brain. Cognitive rehabilitation is the process to follow to be able to maintain, recover and compensate any function that needs to be worked on.

Through my evaluation and therapeutic work at HMS I wish to provide the patient with a space where he or she can improve and this can be reflected in his day-to-day life as well as promote knowledge of what Neuropsychology entails.

I offer my services in Spanish and English.

«The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of those depths.» -Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Since I started my bachelor’s in psychology, I knew working with children was my passion. I had the opportunity to complete my internships in different areas of attention, from human resource and juvenile jail to schools; confirming my drive to specialize in children. I also had the chance of working at a school with children with Autism (ASD) in West Palm Beach District. Back in Panama, I started offering specialized tutoring and opened Peek-a-Boo Preschool, which focused on inclusive education.

Working in the mental health field is wonderful. Being able to accompany the patient in their process and observing how their wellbeing improves provides incredible satisfaction. Individual differences are what makes us unique and unrepeatable; two people can experience the same situation and perceive and feel it differently.

I have had the opportunity to collaborate with Soy Capaz Foundation, specialized in adolescents and adults with ASD in different activities; I was a lecturer at the XI Symposium on Autism and Related Pathologies in 2017.

Among my hobbies are reading, cooking and connecting with nature. I enjoy traveling and taking courses abroad, as it allows me to have a broader vision of psychology and people in various cultural contexts.
I offer my services in Spanish and English.

«On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur. L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.» -Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

I am the first Panamanian in my French family. This cultural duality has allowed me to adapt to the differences that the world offers us and honor them as well. I discovered an interest in psychology in my last years of school and since then, I have not stopped learning from it.

I think all the experiences that we live and the people we encounter on our path influences who we are and who we can be. There lies the possibility of always being able to change and improve. One experience that has moved me the most: Becoming a mother. It pushed me to look inside, to learn about the theory of attachment and understand the connection between two beings and the power of co-regulation.

I enjoy creativity: in cooking, drawing, music and movies. The place I enjoy the most: You’ll find it in the first three letters of my name. A word that pushes me forward: Resilience.

Nearly 7 years into Holistic Mind Steps, I still believe in the same principles that led me to join this clinic. We seek to accompany others to achieve their well being through the support of a multidisciplinary team and a integral approach promoting self-knowledge, self-realization and self-esteem, so that each can become their best version. I strongly believe in the impact that an individual can have in its community, and become an agent of change for our society.

I offer therapy, workshops and comprehensive wellness consulting to individuals, organizations and schools in Spanish, English and French.

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Gandhi

I am one of the founding members of HMS/Purolove. I like movies, reading and practicing all sports specially water ones. I love nature and the ocean for the energy that it´s shared with me; that way I feel connected with the universe and all of its vibration. I think life should be lived, taking every moment good or bad as an integral part of it. Living each moment in complete awareness and enjoy all the beautiful things that the universe brings to us. I think human beings are fascinating. Sometimes they stumble with rocks on their path and sometimes they fall; I love having the opportunity to help them with life tools, thus they can move or kick those rocks and move forward in harmony and in peace with themselves and their surroundings. Help them to live life in abundance and gratitude.

We wanted to create with HMS a harmonious and serene place where people felt calm and could be helped in a holistic manner considering all of their dimensions of mind, body and spirit. In HMS I am an individual, couples, families and mental health therapist. Also, I manage the holistic health with natural supplements. The therapy that I impart is cognitive behavioral, dialectal behavioral, solution-focused and narrative with an integrated focused on the present moment.

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning how to dance in the rain.”-Vivian Greene

I am a proud Panamanian, but I recognize that there are improvements to be made. I value education as a means for our human resource to increase the quality of life at a global level. I have faith that an individual can change the world and I have dedicated my life to help people so that they can be that positive force. I work every day to practice what I preach and balance myself a bit more in mind, body and spirit, but I acknowledge that my main effort to date has been mental. I love to read and stay abreast of the most recent psychiatric developments, which are seeing their most rapid growth since the birth of the specialty. Each day I learn about the interrelation between all our systems and their effect on our mental health in the short and long term, which mirror the interrelation between us all.

My interest in medicine came from my maternal grandfather (humanitarian neurosurgeon) and my passion for mental health through mi rotations in medicine where I would spend more time talking with and listening to my patients than my colleagues. I soon realized that these patients felt more satisfied with their care and their health and would improve quicker, no matter which specialty I was rotating through. I had the opportunity to do research on the effects of lack of sleep, maternal depression and domestic violence on children. During my psychiatric rotations, I consolidated the idea that for optimal wellness one needed to work integrally. For this reason, when I arrived back in Panama and met Analida, we decided to create Holistic Mind Steps (HMS), a health clinic where we work with the whole person in mind, body and spirit, so that they may achieve the optimal version of themselves. In HMS, in addition to helping with the administration of the clinic, I am one of the psychiatrists.
